On 19 February 2015, a group of students, one of whom is a member of the International Student/Young Pugwash network, published an article in the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists looking at a variety of factors that have impacted the current nuclear nonproliferation community’s efforts to nurture and build a new generation of activists.
“Will there be a next generation in the fight for nuclear nonproliferation?” recognizes efforts of some organizations and individuals to engage the young on these issues but is a wake up call to the community as a whole, from institutions to funders alike, that serious engagement is needed because “The battle against nuclear proliferation will take more than a few decades to win, and if no one is left to carry on the fight, it won’t be won at all.”
