Pugwash recognizes award for SESAME scientists

1 February 2019: Pugwash congratulates the SESAME scientists awarded the 2019 Award for Science Diplomacy by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Eliezer Rabinovici (a member of the Israel Pugwash group), Christopher Llewellyn Smith, Zehra Sayers, Herwig Schopper and Khaled Toukan were instrumental in founding and developing the Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME) laboratory in Allan, Jordan. The institution promotes scientific cooperation in the Middle East region, with participating members from Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Pakistan, the Palestinian Authority and Turkey.
