From 30-31 July 2026, Pugwash held a 12-person expert workshop to support the design of a new multi-year project on the emerging European security order. The project will analyse how that order is taking shape and will develop recommendations for shaping a non-confrontational, stabilised European security architecture following the end of hostilities between Russia and Ukraine. This work is set against the wider erosion of the post-Cold War security order: abandonment of established arms control frameworks, toxifying relations between Russia and the West, disregard for international law and rules, and the broader movement toward a more fragmented and polyvalent international system.
