Oegstgeest workshop of the Pugwash Study Group on the Implementation of the Chemical and Biological Weapons Convention

On 16-17 April 2005 the Pugwash Study Group on the Implementation of the Chemical and Biological Weapons Convention held its 22nd workshop, Present Trends and Future Policy Choice, in Oegstgeest, The Netherlands.

In contrast to the regular workshops convened by the study group (of which there have been 21 in the Netherlands and Switzerland since 1993), in this workshop participants were encouraged to step back from the day-to-day aspects of implementation of the 1972 Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) and the 1993 Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) in order to consider policy options for the longer term within a perspective not confined solely to the treaties. The meeting was jointly convened by the Study Group and the Harvard Sussex Program on CBW Armament and Arms Limitation, and hosted by the Netherlands Pugwash Group.
