On 7 May 2025, Pugwash held a meeting in collaboration with The Simons Foundation Canada and Canadian Pugwash, which took place in the margins of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty’s Third Preparatory Committee in New York.
“Preserving the NPT: Failures, Opportunities, and the future of Nuclear Disarmament” featured presentations by Pugwash Executive Committee chair Prof. Tatsujiro Suzuki and Pugwash Council member Tariq Rauf, as well as comments from Secretary General Prof. Karen Hallberg, President Dr. Hussain Al-Shahristani, and Council member Dr. Jennifer Simons, chaired by Council member Cesar Jaramillo. The delegation of several Pugwash officials and Council members participated in several side-meetings as Pugwash looks forward to making contributions to a healthy and robust NPT regime ahead of the 2026 Review Conference.
