As part of its portfolio of work on cyber security and warfare, Pugwash was accredited to the UN Cyber Open-Ended Working Group focused on security of and in the use of information and communications technologies.
The cyber-OEWG mission is to develop rules, norms, and principles for responsible state behaviour in cyberspace. The OEWG aims to promote common understandings, address threats and explore cooperative measures related to information security, also focussing on shaping future global cybersecurity policies.
The Pugwash cyber project leader, Gian Piero Siroli, participated at the fifth substantive session of the OEWG in July 2023 and will again represent Pugwash at the eighth substantive session in July 2024. A summary report will follow.
