Pugwash delegation visits Armenia

On 22-23 January 2019, the Pugwash Secretary General Paolo Cotta Ramusino and senior program coordinator Claudia Vaughn were honored to be received by the President of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, and by the Foreign Minister, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan. The meetings were held to discuss the possibility of holding the 63rd Pugwash Conference in Yerevan in 2019. Welcoming the idea of hosting this conference, the President of Armenia observed that the “combination of science and politics is important especially for the future.”

Noting the important geographical location of Armenia, Prof. Cotta Ramusino emphasized that Yerevan can be a key location for dialogue on many of the world’s most critical issues, and be a bridge to aid the resolution of conflict, to reduce tensions in arms control and global security, and to support efforts at non-proliferation and disarmament.
