Pugwash seeks a world free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction. Through our long-standing tradition of ‘dialogue across divides’ that also earned us the Nobel Peace Prize in 1995, Pugwash aims to develop and support the use of scientific, evidence-based policymaking, focusing on areas where nuclear and WMD risks are present. By facilitating track 1.5 and track II dialogues, we foster creative discussions on ways to increase the security of all sides and promote policy development that is cooperative and forward-looking.
Ramallah Meetings and Workshop on the Future of Palestine
On 1 September 2013, Pugwash held in Ramallah another of its series of meetings on the future of Palestine.
Participants held a series of private discussions with former Prime Minister Dr. Salam Fayad; Dr. Nabil Shaath, Nasser Shaer and Sameer Abu Eisheh, other officials, and local business people. An afternoon round table discussion at Fateh International commission involved key policy makers, business people and other experts. The day concluded with a tribute to Gabi Baramki, former Pugwash Council member and former head of Palestinian Pugwash.
